The food pyramid has been turned upside down, Baladi at the top

The new US dietary guidelines put whole foods at the top and push grains down. Where is grass-fed organic beef in the new pyramid.

The new food pyramid with grass-fed organic beef at the top

It finally happened. The food pyramid has turned upside down, pasta and bread have given way to the new king of modern nutrition - organic beef and grass-fed.

What has changed in the new guidelines

This move no longer takes place only in the health discourse and in the world of wellness. In January 2026, the US Department of Health (HHS), led by Secretary of Health Robert Kennedy Jr., and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) published the updated dietary guidelines: less ultra-processed food, less reliance on grains and carbohydrates, and more real, whole food, one that is truly nutritious. It's an institutional change, not a fad.

How we got to the old pyramid

To understand how we got there, we need to go back a moment. For decades, the food pyramid placed carbohydrates and grains at the top. This concept has received increasing scientific criticism over the years. Today it is clear that carbohydrates and grains are not a basic food, but a complementary component. They provide quick energy, but are relatively poor in nutritional values, especially when they come from industrial processing. In the updated pyramid they are already the bottom layer.

Those who rose to the top are the truly rich foods: whole foods, with high bioavailability, those that the body knows how to break down, absorb and use for optimal functioning. Beef, eggs, quality cheeses, fruits and vegetables are the basis of a balanced and healthy diet.

Why Beef is at the top

And within this group, beef stands out above all others. Not as a statement, but as a nutritional fact: complete protein, available iron, zinc, B vitamins and fats that the body needs. It is one of the richest foods out there. But even here, not all cattle are the same. Cattle raised in an intensive industry are not similar to cattle raised in natural pasture. The difference is not ideological, it is physiological.

Therefore, at the top of the new pyramid is grazing cattle. Cattle fed only on grass, under natural conditions, without growth hormones and without antibiotics as usual, and under organic standards. Not just "better meat", but a different raw material.

And this is exactly where Baladi chose to stand. Not in the middle, not in compromise, but at the top.

The food pyramid has not disappeared. It just flipped upside down. And what is above is clear. Organic beef and grass-fed. Baladi at the top.
